An installation for S.T. Griswold Sculpture Park, Williston, VT, sponsored by Arts Alive Festival, July - October, 1997

Traction was sited on the lawn of a construction firm in Williston, VT. The sculpture paid homage to the heavy equipment environment that was its backdrop. A large rounded form referencing the barrel of a cement mixer was suspended from a cantilevered derrick, braced by a segmented cone and anchored to a metal tractor weight. The sculpture was built of scraped and cut maple saplings. Two of the sculptural elements in Traction were recycled from a related sculptural installation, Equilibrium.
