An installation for Burlington County College Sculpture Garden, Pemberton, NJ, May 1997 - April 1999

The materials for Forked Oak came from the forest adjacent to the sculpture garden. The sculpture was made from an oak trunk, black gum pods and sliced oak firewood. The gum pods and the oak segments spiral down from the oak trunk's two forks.
The oak was brought out of the forest and scraped clean. The black gum pods were gathered, drilled and strung on two twisted strands of 1/8" steel cable. The slices of oak firewood were also drilled and strung on steel cable.
The seeds in black gum pods are eaten by squirrels, the oak segments reference wood products. Together the garlands celebrate two contributions of trees, food and shelter.
