An installation for Riverworks 6, Hoosic River Watershed Annual Riverfest, Williamstown, MA, May 1997

Equilibrium balanced two sculptural forms. The two forms were connected by a rope strung over the branch of a large sycamore tree on the banks of the Hoosic River. One form was partially submerged in the fast moving river. The other was suspended in the air. Slight variations in water flow, position in the current and wind caused the relative positions of the two sculptural elements to adjust over time. The friction of the rope over the branch acted as a brake on the relative motion of the sculpture.
